A few weeks ago at Paleo f(x), I was fortunate enough to score a review copy of ‘Gather: The Art of Paleo Entertaining’ from my friends Bill and Hayley at The Food Lovers’ Primal Palate, authors of the bestselling book, Make it Paleo. Thumbing through this thing, I can tell you it’s nothing short of amazing. They really outdid themselves on this one. Not only are the recipes top notch as usual, but the look of each meal plan is awesome. The photography amazing as we have come to expect, but the styling of the food and ambiance of each meal is beautiful and seems to fit perfectly. It’s now available for preorder and was even rated ‘Best of the Month’ for March on amazon.
Being from Alabama, my girlfriend is known for her southern hospitality. It seems during most holidays and occasions, we are the ones to host parties for our friends. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, Super Bowl or a friend’s birthday, you can bet the party is at our house. It always takes serious planning and by the end, we’re just exhausted. Why am I including this? Because another fantastic feature in this book is for each occasion, there are outlined instructions for what you need to do ahead of time including: where and what to shop for, steps you can take days ahead of time to ensure a smooth party so you can focus on having a good time and not spending time in the kitchen.
There are several different types of occasions in the book, the most popular being the Take Out Fake Out section which contains the amazing General Tso’s Chicken recipe (this alone makes the book worthwhile). The plan that caught my eye in particular was the Hunter-Gatherer Feast. It’s no secret that I love the idea about hunting for my food. I’ve written about it in the past and have even posted a recipe for liver pâté made from pheasants that I actually shot. I love the idea that there is a whole section dedicated to wild game that includes elk and venison cuts and a great wild mushroom soup as well.
Do you have to have an interest in throwing dinner parties or get togethers in order to appreciate this book? No! This book is for anyone interested in amazing paleo food while organized in a way that proves that even dinner parties are possible in the paleo lifestyle. Going to a potluck or party at someone else’s house but need to bring a dish? Then Gather is perfect to leaf through and find the ideal dish no matter what the occasion.
